Lexus IS is a mid-size car. It is available since 1998 and during that time it has changed a few generations. In the Lexus model range, IS model takes a position between the hybrid CT and larger ES/GS.
The first version of the Lexus IS in the domestic Japanese market was sold under the name Toyota Altezza.
The main competitors and counterparts of Lexus IS: BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Cadillac ATS, Infiniti G/Q50, Jaguar XE, Acura TSX, Audi A4, Volvo S60, and other luxury mid-size cars.

Unlike the 2JZ-GTE, which was installed in the Toyota Supra, Lexus IS used a conventional naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE.
The second-generation IS obtained very different engines: 2.5-liter 4GR, 3-liter 3GR, and 3.5-liter 2GR. The most powerful engine used on Lexus IS F is a 5-liter 2UR-GSE.
In addition to gasoline engines, there are also versions with diesel engines, such as IS200d and IS220d. These cars used 2.2 liter 2AD engine.
The third IS generation appeared in 2013, and obtained the following engines: 2GR, 4GR, as well as straight-4 8AR and 2AR. 2AR engine is used in hybrid Lexus IS300h, and 8AR engine is installed in a turbocharged IS200t.
