Nissan VQ37VHR engine reliability, problems and repair
In 2007 the most modern and perfect engine of VQ series was introduced by Nissan. It was VQ37VHR. This engine is mainly used for Infinity car. It was designed on basis of VQ35HR cylinder block with enlarged height and rigidity. Inside they installed crankshaft with 86mm piston stroke, long connecting rods, light pistons, and compression ratio reached 11. These upgrades let increasing displacement to 3.7L.
On top two modified heads of cylinder block were installed, which had continuous variable valve lift and timing system VVEL on intake and exhaust camshafts. Also valves were upgraded, two reinforced valve springs were installed, updated inlet and outlet ports, new intake system and equal length headers. VQ37VHR rev limit was 7,600 RPM.
This engine uses quite reliable and durable timing chain. VQ series also included such engines as VQ40, VQ35, VQ30, VQ25, VQ23 and VQ20.
Also this engine has some remote relationship with powerful VR38DET from Nissan GTR.
Nissan VQ37VHR engine problems and malfunctions
The main problems of this engine are similar to the ones on VQ35. You can know about them HERE.
Nissan VQ37VHR engine tuning
N/A build
The cheapest and easiest way to increase the power is buying cold air intake, 3-1 headers, 2.5” performance exhaust system and also making chip tuning. It will give you about 360 HP and make the engine sound much better. If, besides, you purchase Z1 intake manifold, gaining 390 horsepower will be possible. Or you may buy Z1 400HP kit (intake + exhaust + Uprev software) at once and gain the same power. It is the reasonable limit for this engine. To obtain more than 400 horsepower, you need to purchase performance intake manifold, aggressive cams and to upgrade fuel system. In the upshot, these performance parts will cost you a lot, while only about 420 HP will be gained.
VQ37VHR Supercharger
This variant has much greater effect, comparing to the described above. You need to buy Stillen supercharger kit for VQ37, that is Vortech V3 supercharger. Such kits are installed on stock internals and their maximal boost pressure is 7 psi (0.5 bar). This is enough to gain about 500 horsepower. If to increase the max boost to 11.5 psi (0,8 bar), you will get about 550 horsepower. Using Greddy twin turbo kit (2x TD06-20G) is possible to obtain almost the same or even greater power. This engine is quite durable and stock internals may bear about 500WHP, and sometimes even 550WHP. If you are going to get 500+ WHP, then better buy forged low compression pistons and H-beam rods.
The great shortcoming of all this is the cost. It is too high and may reach the half price of your car. It may be easier to buy a faster auto.
