Nissan QG15DE engine reliability, problems and repair
Nissan QG15DE was developed in 2000 to replace GA15DE. This engine uses QG16DE cylinder block with cylinder diameter diminished to 73.6 mm. Accordingly, pistons were modified, and compression ratio increased to 9.9. As for the rest, the engine is the same as QG16DE.
To decrease the exhaust toxicity, QG15DE was equipped with EGR system and also mechanical throttle body.
In 2002 these engines were upgraded. They got variable valve timing system CVTC, electronic throttle body, and EGR valve was removed.
QG15DE engines had timing chain. Every 100,000 miles of mileage (150,000 km) or sometimes earlier it had to be changed for the new.
No hydraulic lifters were used on the engine, therefore every 25,000-30,000 miles of mileage (40,000-50,000 km) it was necessary to regulate the valves.
The engine was produced till 2006, and then it was substituted with HR15DE.
Nissan QG15DE engine problems and malfunctions
Technical characteristics of QG15 engine are similar to QG16 and QG18, and accordingly, they have the same problems. From time to time they do not start, have high fuel consumption, make a noise sometimes, whistle, etc. You can learn more about it HERE.
Nissan QG15DE engine tuning
N/A build
The best choice for you would be changing your engine for QG18DE. However, if you need to increase the power of your QG15DE exactly, then buy header, performance exhaust system and adjust ECU soft aggressively. These performance mods will give you about 5-10 HP and wilder sound. You should not buy any turbo kits, this small engine I4 will not give you any impressive power.
